Many who argue against the validity of the gospel accounts say that their inconsistencies with one other in certain places mean that their testimony cannot be reliable. On the contrary, the various perspectives of each of the writers together paint a vivid picture of an underlying truth. It always delights me to see the slight differences and nuances of each gospel account, because although the main points and facts are all consistent with one another — there are hidden gems in each gospel that give us a unique (and often profound) look into the nature of who Jesus really was.

In the gospel of John there is one such detail, toward the end of the gospel, that for many probably is neither significant nor remembered as they study Jesus’ life. For me it leaves such a profound and delightful impression, and I wanted to share that experience with you today.
