When Satan tempted Eve in the garden, one of the threads of his lie was that God’s character couldn’t be trusted. Genesis 3:5 reads, “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” The implication here is that God is hiding something from humanity, withholding the highest benefit because He has ulterior motives or is insecure or oppressive in some way.

Today this lie is alive and well, because many people do not trust God’s character, God’s word and God’s sovereignty. These are the three threads of the forbidden fruit, and sadly mankind as a whole is still eating out of it every single day. That is why we must edify ourselves with what the bible says about God’s character, so that we can defend the truth when the time comes.
