“ For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

Romans 1:20

Nature according to the bible is proof of God and also His attributes, so that we are without excuse. Certainly whenever we see a beautiful work of art we do not believe it randomly came to be, but rather give credit to the artist. In the same way, nature and its many laws reveal the heart and mind of our Creator in a poetic and profound way.

Because our reality is governed by cause and effect, it means that at some point there had to be a causeless cause to begin all things. This is what the bible testifies, and that causeless cause is God — a real being with infinite intelligence, infinite power and a heart of steadfast love.

With all of this in mind, today I want to share with you several ways that nature reveals the qualities of God from His work, just like it is with any artist or craftsman. These points are in no particular order.

#1: Infinite

In Isaiah 55:8-9, God reminds us that His ways are far above and beyond our ways, and the visual that is used is the distance between the sky and the Earth. This means that this distance was specifically chosen by God to visualize the difference between us and Him — an infinite difference — and whenever we look at the sky we remember how utterly huge and infinite God is. We are nothing by comparison, and yet God has revealed Himself to us and holds each of us in His hands.

#2: Omnipotent

Psalm 19 famously says that the heavens declare the glory of God, and what most people do not immediately realize is that there are two glories revealed here. The first glory is the glory we tend to think of, which is a beautiful sky — perhaps on a quiet afternoon — painted with purples and yellows and dreamy clouds. These picturesque memories that we all have remind us of God’s grace, peace and loving nature.

Yet there are also frightening things in the sky. Hurricanes, tornadoes, lightning, hail, thunder, rain, blistering sun and comets are a few examples. All of these are reminders that God is a righteous, all-powerful being that cannot be approached by sinful creatures. God is the judge of the Earth, the omnipotent Creator, and is fearsome in power because He is the Almighty.
